Nutrition Philosophy and Journey to Optimal Health

Jan 21, 2019

I am about to explain my journey to becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), and how that has transformed my nutrition philosophy.

Do you feel confused or frustrated with diet trends?  Or are you still stuck on the yo-yo diet hamster wheel?

I remember after graduating high school I began looking into “healthy eating” for weight loss.  It seemed like a foreign concept to me, and there was so much conflicting information out there.

I started to follow popular diet trends and fitness influencers, because that seemed like the right way to lose weight.  I tried weight watchers, paleo, clean eating, etc.  While I achieved my goal of weight loss the perfectionist inside me still wasn’t happy.

My obsession with “healthy” eating actually led me to get my B.S. in Dietetics.  Somewhere during my journey to becoming a registered dietitian I started to realize that I had an unhealthy relationship with food and my body.  I also realized that in order to change the way I felt I needed to change my mindset.

At that instant I began eating to feel good, eating for health and longevity, enjoying food and the experiences around it, and I finally began to feel confident in my own body.  While these fad diets seem very appealing and offer a quick fix, they also represent restriction and feed into our lack of confidence.

So what is my nutrition philosophy?

My nutrition philosophy is to make optimal health attainable for everyone and practical so that people can feel better about themselves.  I use a non-fad diet approach to nutrition and help people create life-long lifestyle habits.  I do not label food as “good” or “bad”.  Instead my approach to nutrition focuses on enjoying life to its fullest while maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
